The
Bay Trail Celebrates Earth Day!
This year, Earth Day events took place in many locations along the
Bay Trail. Participants joined in habitat restoration and trail cleanups,
bike rides, walks, conferences, and festivals all in celebration of
the Bay. Below are some of the highlights of these momentous events.
Hayward Shoreline Ride, Sponsored by Greenbelt Alliance
Saturday, May 4th
Tour guide David Wilbur led bikers from The Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center near the east toll plaza of the San Mateo Bridge to the San Leandro Marina.

Berkeley-Richmond Shoreline Ride

Bay Trail Leo Dubose led this Bay Trail-sponsored ride along the scenic
East Bay shoreline. The ride began at the new pedestrian bridge in Berkeley
and continued north past the Albany bulb and mudflats to Point Isabel
and Hoffman Marsh.

TRAC-sponsored West County Earth Day Bike Ride

Phil Maynard of the Trails for Richmond Action Committee (TRAC) led
bikers along the Richmond shoreline, from Point Isabel to the West Contra
Costa County Earth Day celebration, with stops at the Rosie the Riveter
monument in Marina Bay and the Point Richmond Plunge.

Earth Day Bay Walk, Day 3

At this 5-day event sponsored by Acterra, volunteers walked 57 miles
from Mountain View to Civic Center in San Francisco, using existing
Bay Trail where possible.

San Rafael Shoreline Park Bay Trail Dedication and Restoration
April
21, 2002
Mayor Al Boro provided opening remarks at the dedication ceremony for
this new Bay Trail segment, which was funded by a grant from the Bay
Trail's Regional Development Program. In addition to the trail opening,
the event included interpretive walks, habitat restoration and other
hands-on activities, and environmental exhibits.
