The Bay Trail weaves around a lovely cove, Crab Cove.

From Crab Cove you can see clear across the Bay to San Mateo County, a breath-taking view.

This lovely, curving cove is also a wonderful place to visit; just to enjoy the warm sand and gentle breezes.

The neighboring picnic area at Crown Beach is peaceful and not overcrowded.

To the right lies a small harbor packed with sailboats where locals come to try their hand at fishing and sailing.

A variety of birds also inhabit the cove. Flocks of small swallows dart back and forth attempting to catch a quick meal.

Pelicans wait lazily for just the right moment to scoop up a mouthful of their favorite dish, fish.

One of the highlights of Crab Cove is its informative Visitor Center, where you can expand your knowledge of the wildlife around this area.

In the Visitor Center there is a life-like display of shorebirds and other creatures that live there.

Pictures of the Shoreline at Low Tide

At low tide, the water is pulled back to reveal a vast expanse of mud flats.

The tell-tale holes in the sand are evidence of sand crabs. In case your mouth is watering, these aren't the crabs you'd find served on a platter.

These small crabs live buried two to three inches below the surface of the mud.

Pictures of the Shoreline at High Tide

Lapping the once muddy shoreline, small sparkling waves gracefully flow back and forth.

At high tide, the calming waves and soft sand make for a great place to bring children of all ages to swim and play.
