Hudeman Slough
Access roads are lined with grape vines.
These views of vines make the area worth visiting even if you don't use the boat ramp!
Hudeman Slough Boat Ramp site acquisition and development was funded by the California Department of Fish and Game / Wildlife Conservation Board. The site is operated by Sonoma County Regional Parks.
The boat ramp site has more than adequate parking for cars with boat trailers.
The ramp itself allows easy access for launching boats. Most boaters fish in Hudeman and adjacent sloughs. The people who were pulling in this boat had been successful!
Large telephone poles mark the approach to the boat ramp from the water.
Skaggs Island Road continues past the ramp for almost a mile before being CLOSED to private vehicles. The bridge is visible to the east from the ramp.
Views across the slough include marshlands.
Vegetation is thick next to the slough.
The water was relatively calm on the day we visited, but some days are exceptionally windy.
The parking lot and surrounding area has few trees. Bring sunscreen!
The slough is truly a water trail.
Our preferred travel is via canoe, for canoes, like bicycles, are self propelled. They also can be used to gain quiet access to areas with turkey vultures, kites, terns and egrets and live nearby!
The mud next to the boat ramp has excellent examples of bird tracks.
The mud next is exceptionally soft and will not support you as well as it can the birds.
You may be lucky to get your shoe back if you make the mistake of stepping in the mud!
The mud can also be very slippery! Be careful!
